-The Clark County Tourism Committee heard a presentation from Jeff Anderson with the Wisconsin Department of Tourism.Jeff talked about the tourism industry as a whole for the state of Wisconsin and for some items specific to Clark County. Clark County saw over $50 million come into the state from tourism in 2017, generating about $2.9 million in state and local taxes. Around the state, about 1 in 13 jobs are related to the tourism industry. Wisconsin had 110 million visitors in 2017 and the department is now looking at ways to reach into areas people typically travel from in order to draw in new visitors to the state. The department has a series of new ads featuring Donald Driver that they’ll be releasing to radio and TV stations, online, Facebook and more.
So far for 2019, Clark County is down slightly regarding the amount of tourism dollars being brought in. The Wisconsin department of Tourism has many resources at its disposal and they provided research showing how important recreation activities are when it comes to attracting visitors and helping a county and its communities heal from recessions. When compared to other mid-west states like Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri and Ohio, Wisconsin fares above average in many different categories like camping, fishing, relaxing, biking and more.
