Tuesday, April 16th, 2019 -- 7:50 AM
-The Owen-Withee School Board heard the Administrators’ Reports at their meeting last week.District Administrator Bob Houts reported on the change from Security Health to WCA, or Wisconsin County’s Association, for health insurance in 2019-20. Security Health proposed an 11% increase for next year, a hit of roughly $130,000 to the district’s budget. The WCA proposal, which was accepted by the healthcare consortium the district participates in, came in with a 1% decrease, saving the district roughly $10,400. He also reported on the dental insurance for next year that will show a 1% decrease with a slight increase in the actual benefit. Mr. Houts presented to the board information from Baird that showed how referenda around the state faired in the April 2nd elections. 85% of the referenda to exceed the revenue limits, including Owen-Withee’s, passed. Finally, Mr. Houts led a discussion about what to do should another snow day occur before the end of the year.
The board instructed him to make meeting state-mandated hours of instruction by extending days a priority. Extending the school year to Monday, June 3rd should be a last resort. The board also heard a Buildings and Grounds Committee Report including some maintenance priorities. The Buildings and Grounds Committee met on March 27th to look at a list of maintenance projects and prioritize them. Priority items include replacing carpet with tile in the elementary, parking lot maintenance, repainting the elementary gym, finish the elementary ceiling where the old foldable wall was removed, sidewalk repair, and an exhaust system for the welding shop.
