The Owen-Withee School Board discussed the state budget at their meeting on Monday.District Administrator Bob Houts presented to the board 10 bulletin items regarding education funding that are included in the 2019-21 state budget. Most of the items would have a positive impact on the District and the aids they received from the State. The state budget is being discussed over the next month with debate and resolution, hopefully, by July 1st. Mr. Houts also presented to the board an option to provide some kind of reimbursement to staff members who do not participate in the district’s health insurance program. The example he used showed that, if the district provide people not on our insurance a stipend of $5000, it would take 4 current participants to move off their insurance to make the option a positive for the District.
Currently, 9 employees have indicated that this might be an option for them. The board directed Mr. Houts to further develop the idea and bring the issue back to the May meeting. The board also discussed teacher and support staff negotiations. This discussion started back in February. With all the snow days and the referendum, it got pushed to the back burner. Mr. Houts will set up meetings with both committees over the next couple of weeks to get the process started.
