(Marshfield News Herald) -The litter of puppies rescued after they were abandoned in a Marshfield garbage can are now ready to find their fur-ever homes. The Marshfield Area Pet Shelter, which took in the nine Australian Shepherd Labrador puppies after they were saved in late February, will begin accepting adoption applications for the animals beginning Thursday. The application deadline is Friday at midnight, according to the shelter's website. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered. The puppies were found Feb. 28 in a garbage can in the 800 block of East Fourth Street in Marshfield by a salesman who heard what sounded like kittens coming from the can. Police rescued the puppies and brought them to the shelter, where they, along with their mother, have been living with a foster family.
On March 21, Wood County prosecutors charged Robert M. Wild, 56, of Marshfield, with intentionally mistreating and abusing animals. The adoption fee for each puppy is $200, which includes spay or neuter surgery, microchip registration, a series of age-appropriate vaccines and deworming. The puppies will be ready to move to their new homes during the first or second week of May. The Marshfield Area Pet Shelter is a first come, first served adoption agency.
