(WDLB) -Construction of new athletic facilities in Marshfield is officially underway.A groundbreaking ceremony was held yesterday in the parking lot of Marshfield High School, officially starting the building process for athletic improvements district-wide. Brad Haessly co-chaired the fundraising commitment to secure private donations, and he called it “a remarkable day for the Marshfield community.” Athletic Director Nathan Delaney said the Marshfield School District and community goal is now becoming a reality. He said the impact of the projects, both from an educational and athletics viewpoint, will be understated for years to come.
Construction is well underway on a new concession stand and football and soccer facility at the high school, and baseball and softball facilities just to the west are currently taking shape as well. Later this summer construction begins on improvements at Marshfield Middle School. The nearly eight-million dollars in private donations will be paired with a three-and-a-half million dollar commitment by the school district. The Rettler Corporation of Stevens Point has designed more than 11-million dollars worth of athletic facility improvements over the next several years. A dedication ceremony will take place once the main facility at the high school is in place this fall.
