State Democrats Talk Medicaid Expansion

(WRN) -Legislative Democrats are taking their case to accept federal Medicaid funding on the road this month as part of the budget process.State Democrats are going to be making their case for expanding Badgercare during a series of meetings this month. Assembly Minority Leader Gordon Hintz says taking federal Medicaid funding is the right call for the state.
"Right now we have something available to us that we can do that would significantly benefit affordable healthcare, accessible health care, but also our state budget."
Hintz says it's baffling to him why the state hasn't accepted federal funding to expand insurance coverage to its residents.
"The idea that Wisconsin would choose to pay more of its own state tax dollars to cover fewer people is just simply not... *laughs* It just doesn't make sense."
Hintz says he thinks the measure could pass, theoretically.
"I think there's support among Republicans when I talk with them, it seems to be more of a leadership problem wanting to oppose everything Tony Evers does because it's Tony Evers, not because it's a good idea or a bad idea."
Hintz says taking the funding would both expand coverage to 82-thousand people, and save the state 324 million dollars over the next two years.
