Wisconsin Lawmakers Introduce Bill to Stabilize Wisconsin Paper Industry

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -A pair of state legislators announced plans to reintroduce the Papermaker Fund Bill, which aims to help stabilize the paper industry in Wisconsin.Rep. Amanda Stuck and Sen. Dave Hansen say they want to provide a hand up, not a hand out to companies that need to modernize their facilities, improve energy efficiency, and transition to producing in-demand paper products. Rep. Stuck says over the past few years, Wisconsin has seen numerous mill closures and bankruptcies. And that's effecting both large and small mills and impacting thousands of workers in the Fox Valley.
The lawmakers say their bill will invest in companies to transition to in-demand products, help companies invest in energy efficiency and renewable energy, and will invest in the researchers and educators in the state who are working on the next breakthrough and training the next generation of paper researchers.
