Wisconsin Egg Production Down

Wisconsin egg production was 151 million eggs in February, down 10-percent from last month and three-percent below a year ago.According to Wisconsin Ag Connection, the USDA says the average number of all layers on hand was 7.17 million, up two percent from last month and one percent more than a year earlier. Eggs per 100 layers were 2,107, down 12 percent from last month and four percent lower than last February. Nationally, egg production totaled 8.56 billion, up three percent from last year.
Production included 7.48 billion table eggs, and 1.08 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.00 billion were broiler-type and 80.3 million were egg-type. The average number of layers during February totaled 398 million, up two percent from last year.
