(WRN) -If your house got flooded this winter, now is the time to make sure you're not about to have problems with mold.If your house got flooded this winter, now is the time to make sure you're not about to have problems with mold. Mike Metcalf with the Department of Health Services says winter temperatures can mask the damage your house has taken.
"During the winter months you might not see mold growth, but as the home starts to heat up and there's more humidity in the air, that mold mold start to grow and you might start to notice it."
Metcalf says the state maintains a list of trusted contractors to inspect your home.
"These are all professionals that can come in and do an inspection, they can clean up mold, they can advise and tell you best how to take care of any mold situation."
Metcalf says the basic rule of thumb is any drywall, carpet or furniture that got flooded has to be replaced.
"Other things that can't be disinfected or dried within, we say, 24 to 48 hours, you'll need to those away."
