Wisconsin Cheese Production Dropped in January

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin's total cheese production was down in January when compared to a year earlier, making it the second consecutive month of lower output.The latest dairy product summary from the USDA notes that the state churned out 278.3 million pounds of cheese during the month, which was down 4.0 percent from a year earlier, and 5.2 less than this past December. A 43-month streak of steady increases was broken in April 2018 and fell again during June and December.
Nationally, about 1.10 billion pounds of cheese was produced in the United States in January. That was 0.4 percent more than the same month last year, and 0.7 percent greater than the previous month's production totals. Dry Whey output in Wisconsin was recorded at 21.7 million pounds, which was down 28 percent from last year, and 8.7 percent less compared to last month.
