County Health Rankings Released

-The County Health Rankings were released by the University of Wisconsin’s Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.For health outcomes, Clark County ranks 18 of 72 and 25 of 72 for length of life. Clark County had 5,900 premature deaths for 2018. The county ranked 13 of 72 for quality of life which includes factors like poor or fair health, poor physical health days, poor mental health days and low birthweight. Clark County ranked 61 of 72 for health factors and 53 of 72 for health behaviors. Factor in health behaviors include adult smoking (17%), adult obesity (33%), food environment index, physical inactivity (24%), access to exercise opportunities, excessive drinking (24%), alcohol-impaired deaths (43%), sexually transmitted infections (165.5) and teen births (16). For clinical care, Clark County falls dead last at 72. Factors in clinical care include uninsured, primary care physicians (2,880:1), dentists (2,480:1), mental health providers (2,890:1), preventable hospital stays (4,687), mammography screenings and flu vaccinations, with only 35% of the county vaccinated.
Clark County is 33 of 72 for social and economic factors. Those factors include high school graduation, some college, unemployment, children in poverty (19%), income inequality, children in a single-parent household, social associations, violent crime and injury deaths. Finally, Clark County ranks 10 of 72 for physical environment. Factors in that category include air pollution-particular matter, drinking water violations, severe housing problems, driving alone to work (73%) and long commute-driving alone.
