Friday, March 22nd, 2019 -- 11:56 AM
(WRN) -Following a judge's ruling striking down the lame duck laws that restricted the Governor's power, Governor Evers and Attorney General Josh Kaul are pulling the state out of a lawsuit against the Affordable Care Act.That ruling also struck down over 80 appointments that were made during the lame duck session, and Governor Evers says he'll be examining those as well.
"So we look forward to reviewing the judge's decision, and also making a decision about the appointments."
When asked if any more moves were being planned, Governor Evers said he's taking his time.
"We'll be moving forward, not with speed but with thoughtfulness, and make those decisions going forward."
Evers says the judge made the right call, and he's prepared to continue to deliver promises he made on the campaign trail.
"We don't view this as a window of opportunity. We think we're right on the issues, and clearly the judge made it very clear that the Constitution counts for something in this state."
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald declined recorded interviews, and said in a statement that extraordinary sessions were common and they'd be appealing the ruling.
