Clark County Tourism Committee Hears Presentation from The Highground
Friday, March 22nd, 2019 -- 10:46 AM
-The Clark County Tourism Committee began their meeting on Wednesday with a couple presentations. The first was from Ike Rebout the Media & IT Coordinator for The Highground. Ike explained the significant impact The Highground has on Clark County. The Highground sees over 175,000 visitors each year. With the people that come to The Highground and the spend time in Clark County or even stay overnight, it has an estimated economic growth impact of $8,505,000. However, The Highground is concerned about the potential loss of those visiting the park. If someone comes to The Highground and then leaves, that estimated loss of money could equal $10,000,000 from year to year. Some other concerns they have include other parks that may pop up, donors, operating costs, etc. They also have marketing concerns regarding The Highground. The staff at the park have often heard people say they didn’t know it existed or drove by many times, but didn’t realize it was there.
Moving forward, the park will continue to look at ways to be sustainable and ways to do that by marketing, funding, etc. They hope to build better partnerships with Clark County’s communities, not only Neillsville, but all of Clark County’s communities. They want to better market Clark County’s communities and they hope that, in return, the communities will better promote The Highground. They are also doing more to make other areas of the state, and beyond, aware of the park. They are also expanding by acquiring the former hotel, acquiring an old camp, making the park more accessible by ATV’s and motorcycles, expanding digitally and more.
