(WRN) -As your family gets ready for a spring break vacation, make sure to get your vaccinations checked. As your family gets ready for a spring break vacation, make sure to get your vaccinations checked. This is especially important as measles outbreaks continue across the country. State Immunization Coordinator Stephanie Schauer says the reason getting a measles vaccination is so important is because the virus spreads extremely quickly.
"It's so contagious that if one person is infected, 9 out of 10 people around him or her will also get sick from the virus if they're not protected."
Schauer says getting the measles is very serious.
"One out of four people who come down with measles will be hospitalized, so it's not a trivial disease."
Schauer says it's a good way to make sure you don't have any unwelcome medical trips while you're out enjoying your vacation.
"I think it's just important to make sure you and your family are protected against measles, mumps and rubella, and throw in flu as well."
