Democrats Propose Requiring All First-Time Drunk Drives Use Ignition Interlock Device

Wednesday, March 20th, 2019 -- 10:37 AM

(WRN) -At the Capitol, Democrats propose requiring all first-time drunk drivers to use ignition interlock devices.

Right now, first-time offenders are required to use an ignition interlock device for a year or join a sobriety program for a year if their blood alcohol level was point-one-five percent or higher. The new bill would require the ignition interlock regardless of blood alcohol level.

Senator Chris Larson and Representative Christine Sinicki introduced the bill Tuesday, one day after Republicans introduced a bill that would allow first-time drunken offenders with BACs below point-one-five to ask judges to expunge the offenses.
