State Department of Justice Releases New Guides for Schools to Identify Potential Threats

(AP) -The state Department of Justice is releasing new guides to help schools identify potential threats.The agency released the Wisconsin School Threat Assessment Protocol and the Wisconsin Comprehensive School Security Framework on Monday. The threat assessment protocol suggests schools should establish a threat assessment team that will interview students, classmates and teachers about potential threats, defines unacceptable behaviors and suggests training for students and teachers to recognize such behavior.
The 89-page security framework document lists best practices for preventing, responding to and recovering from violence as well as provides guidance on assessing potential violence indicates. Suggestions include challenging visitors, tracking school climate and adopting strategies for dealing with an attack that range from locking doors to evacuating.
