(WRN) -Former Governor Scott Walker has been tapped to campaign for a balanced budget amendment. The Center for State-led National Debt Solutions announced Monday that the Republican who lost his reelection bid to Democrat Tony Evers will serve as National Honorary Chair. That puts Walker at the center of efforts to call for a Constitutional Convention to adopt such an amendment. Wisconsin became the 28th state to request that, in 2017.
A total of two-thirds of states, or 34, must request that before any convention can happen. Any proposed amendments would then need to be approved by three-fourths of the states.
