More Flooding is on the Way

Monday, March 18th, 2019 -- 9:46 AM

(WRN) -Despite the fact that the first spring melt is over, there's plenty more where that came from.

Despite the fact that the first spring melt is over, there's plenty more where that came from. Portage County emergency manager David Ray says his people will be remaining alert after flood waters cut off parts of the village of Plover last week.

"The natural tendency might be to say, "Gee, things look pretty good right now, and water's receding, and this is all over." And we'd like to hope that's the case, but we absolutely cannot assume that."

Ray says that while we got rid of a lot of snow last week, there's still plenty left in the wooded areas to melt as temperatures warm up this week.

"There's a lot of snow in the woods, and when that continues to melt we may see kind of a repeat of this, so we need to be on our toes for that."

Governor Tony Evers has declared a state of emergency, freeing up resources such as the National Guard to help the situation.
