Activities at Clark County Libraries for Money Smart Week

-Money Smart Week began as a coordinated effort of the Money Smart Advisory Council, a diverse group of more than 40 Chicago-area organizations working together to promote personal financial literacy.

The result was Money Smart Week 2002, six days of focused presentations by community groups, financial institutions, government agencies, educational organizations, and financial experts, all designed to help consumers learn to better manage their personal finances. http://www.moneysmartweek.org/ This event has continued to grow and spread across the county from urban settings to rural outreach. Last year’s annual report listed 5,400 events across 48 states. The Money Smart Week Big Read program distributes thousands of financial literacy books to children and families to provide opportunities for families to discuss saving, spending, and appropriate money management. 2019 Money Smart Big Read Week title, Count on Pablo by Barbara deRubertis will be featured. Money Smart Week 2019 in Clark County is a partnership between UW-Extension, Dorchester Public Library, Abbotsford Public Library, Thorp Public Library, Loyal Public Library and Citizens Bank in Loyal.

Here is a list of the presentations that will be offered to the community throughout the week including Friday April 5th at 10:30am it’s the “Big Read” at Abbottsford Public Library. Friday March 29th at 10:30am at the Dorchester Public Library Count on Pablo will be read during the weekly story time. On Wednesday April 3rd at 10:30am the “Big Read” at Loyal Public Library. Friday March 29th 10:30am at the Neillsville Public Library Count on Pablo will be read during the weekly story time. On Monday, April 1st at 10:30am at the Thorp Public Library the Understanding Your Credit Report Presentation will be given by Nancy Vance of the University of Wisconsin Extension Clark County. On Tuesday, March 26th at 3:30pm the “Big Read” will be held at Thorp Public Library. After the story and discussion time, salsa making will be led by the Assistant Librarian. And on Tuesday, April 2nd at 10:30am Story Hour will feature a simple book presenting money and basic financial concepts that will be distributed to families. Activities to introduce money and coins will follow, as well as a small snack.
