-The Owen-Withee School Board heard an update on the district’s make-up days at their meeting on Monday.District Administrator Bob Houts walked the board through the hours of instruction situation the district is in due to the 9 snow days they’ve had this year. After adding 10 minutes to each school day and designating March 15th as a Make Up Day, the school is still short 20 hours of instruction to meet the minimum hours required by the DPI. The board discussed a couple of options on where to make up the days and voted unanimously to designate April 18th, April 22nd and May 30th as regular school days with May 31st being a half-day for students. The board also heard an update on the Safety Grant. Since the February meeting, the video system has been installed and is up and running.
The high school system was upgraded to a digital system with digital cameras and a couple of cameras were added to the system. A whole system was added to the elementary school with a digital recorder and eleven cameras covering hallways and outside areas. The phone system, which was approved at the February meeting, has been ordered and will be installed this summer. Finally, the security film that will be added to three of the entrances will be measured and installed by a new company, as the original installer has fallen behind their schedule. Mr. Houts will meet with the new company to look at project.
