Columbus Catholic Wins On Buzzer Beater

The Columbus Catholic Dons are heading to the Division 5 State Boys Basketball Championship after a 3-point shot at the buzzer by Tom Nystrom beat Bangor 69-66 in the Semi-final on Friday.The Dons (26-2) will now face Sheboygan Lutheran in the Division 5 State Championship on Saturday morning at 11:05 am at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Jarred Mandel led all scorers with 22 points for Columbus Catholic while the Don's Bryce Fuerlinger set a Division 5 state tournament record for rebounds in a game with 25 to go along with 15 points. Noah Taylor added 17 points for Columbus Catholic.
Columbus Catholic is making their third State appearance and its second in the past three seasons. The Dons have lost in the semifinals in each of their two previous experiences. They will going for their first gold ball tomorrow morning.
