Marshfield School Board Delays Expansion of 4K Program

Thursday, March 14th, 2019 -- 9:09 AM

(WDLB) -Marshfield school officials have delayed a decision on expanding its four-year-old kindergarten program.

The Board of Education voted last night to table a decision on whether to add a 4-K site at Madison Elementary School. The decision was made after board members heard comments from Jessica Merkel, whose daughter will be in 4-K next fall. Merkel said having many options is a wonderful thing, but if those options don't fit the needs of parents, then a much broader discussion on the topic is needed.

Merkel's hope was that the board go into a little more research on the subject, and analyze the situation, and what would be best for the community. The School Board will do just that. The Board has scheduled a special meeting on the topic for April 8th at 5:30 p.m. Also last night, the board voted to create what the district is calling its Angel Fund, which will be used to assist families who are struggling financially, to cover the cost of things like field trips, or even clothing and other personal needs.
