Wisconsin Congressman Talks Vote on President's Emergency Declaration

Wednesday, March 13th, 2019 -- 12:35 PM

(WRN) -The Senate is set to vote to reject President Trump's border emergency declaration this week, and Congressman Ron Kind says it can't come soon enough.

He calls the move by the President unprecedented.

"If he's allowed to get away with this, there's no limit to future presidents declaring a national emergency for anything. Use your imagination, whether it's gun violence, whether it's to combat global warming."

Kind says the move usurps the powers of Congress and is dangerous.

"The president can just declare an emergency and shift money over to do it anyways. This is unprecedented. No other president has ever done anything like this."

The House passed the measure back in February with the backing of a number of Republicans. There appear to be enough votes in the Senate to pass the measure as well. Reports say that enough Republicans will vote for the rejection for it to pass the Senate.
