Clark County Receives County Forest Road Aid

Monday, March 11th, 2019 -- 1:15 PM

-Governor Tony Evers announced that 24 Wisconsin counties will receive a total of $284,700 in state funds to help maintain and improve public roads in county forests.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation administers the state’s County Forest Road Aids program. There are more than 900 miles of public roads within county forests. To qualify for the state funding, roads must meet minimum design standards of a 16-foot surface width and a 20-foot roadway width; be located within county forests; be open and used for travel; and cannot be town roads, county or state highways. County Forest Road Aids are separate from the larger General Transportation Aids program.

GTA offsets the cost of county and municipal road construction, maintenance, traffic and other transportation-related costs. The source of the funding is state-collected transportation revenues from fuel taxes and vehicle registration fees. Clark County will receive $14,333.19 for 45.98 miles of county forest roads.
