Friends of the Black River Holding River Clean-Ups

Monday, March 11th, 2019 -- 8:54 AM

-The Clark County Chapter of the Friends of the Black River has selected the date for their clean-up of the section of the Black River here in Clark County.

The Friends of the Black River began in Jackson County and their mission is to foster a community appreciation and understanding in a sustainable use of the river and its watershed by hosting educational and enjoyable programs, events and conservation projects and by promoting wise decision making when issues affect the health of the Black River basin. A local man, Adam Marciniak, decided to start a chapter in Clark County after noticing all the trash in the river during his many fishing trips. The Jackson County Friends of the Black River holds two yearly clean-ups of the river. They’ll be holding their Spring clean-up on Saturday, April 20th beginning at 8am. They’ll be meeting at Castle Mound State Park lot to get their directions and they’ll finish up by noon with a delicious lunch.

The Clark County Chapter will hold their clean up the week after on Saturday, April 27th beginning at 8am. They will be meeting at the old legion at 801 Hewett Street along O’Neill Creek. The event is scheduled to last until around 11am with a free brat lunch for volunteers. The CART Center in Neillsville is also looking to coordinate an event that weekend that would paint a mural on the bridge on Highway 10 to rid and deter graffiti.
