National Weather Service Concerned About Spring Flooding

(AP) -National Weather Service predictions suggest that flood-prone areas of southwestern Wisconsin could see high waters this spring.Wisconsin Public Radio reports that the weather agency in La Crosse has forecast an above-normal flood risk along the Mississippi River and its tributaries through May. The agency’s First 2019 Spring Flood Outlook report notes that runoff could be more likely in the region because of snowpack and deeply frozen ground. La Crosse County’s emergency management coordinator, Keith Butler, says the severity of the flooding will depend on how quickly snow melts and rainfall over the next few months.
Brandon Larson is the emergency management director in Vernon County. Larson says communities are still rebuilding roads and public infrastructure from flash flooding that occurred last August and September. He’s concerned the same municipalities could be vulnerable to flooding again.
