Governor Evers Proposes Lame-Duck Laws Repealed in State Budget

Friday, March 1st, 2019 -- 12:06 PM

(AP) -Most of the laws passed during a lame-duck legislative session weakening powers of the governor and attorney general would be repealed under Democratic Gov. Tony Evers’ first budget.

Evers released the budget Thursday. Evers is also calling for repealing Wisconsin’s “right-to-work” law and reinstating prevailing wage requirements. Both of those actions weakening powers of unions were taken by former Republican Gov. Scott Walker. Evers is not touching Walker’s signature achievement, the Act 10 law that effectively ended collective bargaining for most public workers.

In another swipe at Walker’s legacy, Evers would undo work and drug test requirements Republicans put in place for people to qualify for Medicaid and food stamps.
