-The Owen City Council heard information on a section of sewer that needs to be replaced in the city. The city’s Public Works Director gave a brief history on the area of sewer that needed to be replaced. The PVC that had been originally installed in the area to the east of the railroad tracks between Colman and Third Street has floated up disrupting the grade of the sewer pipes. Because of this the pipes need to be cleaned continuously and it is just be a matter of time before there is a major backup. Brian Chapman, Cedar Corporation gave a price of $14,450 in engineering costs to do the survey, design the project and obtain the needed permits to complete this project. Cedar Corp would also be responsible for putting the project out for bids.
The estimated cost of the project is $72,000. The council approved and this project is 100% TIF eligible. The council also approved a cost for a CDBG grant application fee. A representative from Cedar Corporation proposed applying for a Community Development Block Grant to redo 5th Street between Hwy D and the railroad tracks. The council approved allowing Cedar Corporation to apply for a CDBG grant for a 50-50 match for the cost of the 5th Street project at the cost of $5,500 to the City.
