Two Wisconsin Lawmakers Reintroducing ROPS Funding Bill

Wednesday, January 30th, 2019 -- 8:01 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Two state lawmakers who drafted legislation last year that would have funded the Wisconsin farm tractor Rollover Protective Structure Rebate program say they are reintroducing their measure in 2019.

Rep. Bob Kulp of Stratford and Sen. Patrick Testin from Stevens Point had sponsored the bill last spring, but it failed to get a vote on the floor of the Legislature. The bill is being cosponsored by Sen. Kathy Bernier of Chippewa Falls and Rep. Tony Kurtz from Wonewoc. According to the National Farm Medicine Center, which is based at the Marshfield Clinic, Wisconsin would join New York and Minnesota as the only states to fund rebates for rollbar retrofits.

A ROPS helps prevent injury or death in the event of an overturn. All Wisconsin farmers are eligible to apply for the rebate program, which reimburses up to 70 percent toward the total cost of purchasing, shipping and installing individual ROPS.
