McMillan Fire Department Receives Funds from Security Health Plan's Employee-Driven Corporate Giving Grant

-“Without new pediatric medical equipment, EMS staff would be using equipment that is over 15 years old to treat patients during emergencies,” said McMillan Fire Department Captain Lorrie Bauer.That’s why Bauer, a Marshfield Clinic Health System employee, nominated the McMillan Fire Department for the Employee-Driven Corporate Giving grant. Each month Security Health Plan awards a different charity or organization that is nominated by a Marshfield Clinic Health System employee, a $1,000 grant. Employees are encouraged to nominate organizations making a positive difference in the community. Funds received from this grant will help to purchase pediatric medical equipment used by EMT and first responders. Without funding from the grant, first responders would be using outdated equipment that is past the standard of operation. “It’s critical to have this equipment so we are better able to treat our pediatric patients,” explained Bauer. Funds will also be used to help teach local children about fire safety.
Bauer serves as the EMS and fire captain for the department. She oversees 23 volunteers who respond to medical emergencies, fires and car accidents. She also plans training for EMS and firefighter staff, orders supplies and ensures the department’s employees’ licenses are current. The McMillan Fire Department is completely staffed by volunteers; Bauer explained they are also in need of additional volunteer staff to join the department.
