Clark County Board of Supervisors Approve Tower Lease Agreement

Monday, January 21st, 2019 -- 11:08 AM

-The Clark County Board of Supervisors approved an amendment to a tower lease agreement at their meeting last week.

This agreement is for the tower located on Clark County land near Hatfield. The original agreement was with American Tower who maintained the tower on behalf of Verizon Wireless. The lease was for $700 a month with a 10% increase very 5 years with the lease ending August 31st of 2029. However, the tower has since changed hands to Wisconsin RSA who now manages the tower on behalf of Verizon Wireless. They changed their lease to pay $1,300 per month with a 3% increase every 5 years and extending the agreement to August 31st of 2059. One board member was concerned the lease had been broken, but the board was assured that it hadn’t been and this was just an amendment to the original. It passed with 26 voting yes and 2 voting no.

The board also approved a resolution to send to the state supporting the creation of a second circuit court branch in Clark County. The board approved a similar resolution two years ago. Clark County’s caseload had indicated the need for a second, fully functioning circuit court branch in the county. However, the final decision is up to the state. There would not be much of a cost to the county as a judge is paid by the state and support staff is paid with cost share from the state. If this were approved, an election would be held for the second judge in Clark County. That election would be in 2020.
