Clark County Board of Supervisors Approves Resolution Supporting Changes to Project Bidding Requirements

Saturday, January 19th, 2019 -- 6:28 AM

-The Clark County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution supporting a change to state law regarding bidding requirements to public works projects.

State statute requires counties to engage in competitive bidding on public works projects where the cost exceeds $25,000 and provided public notice for any public works projects estimated to cost from $5,000 to $25,000. The county feels that those numbers need to be updated to $25,000 from $250,000 for public works projects that exceed those amounts and provide notice for projects over $50,000. The county feels this will allow them to have less burden when it comes to their projects as well as other benefits to completion time, cost effectiveness and more. The state of Wisconsin is currently allowed to use this method, but the county is not. This resolution shows the county supports changes to the state law. It was approved 26 yes and 2 no. This was after one board member thought the number were too high and offered an amendment of lowered numbers. The amendment failed 21 no to 7 yes.

The board also approved a resolution making changes to the formats of their resolutions. They felt the current format, which has been used for years, has led to difficulty and delays in gaining the required signatures of supervisors on committees to move it to the full board for approval. This new format will help make the process more streamlined and easier to read. The resolution, and new format, was approved with 21 voting yes and 7 voting no.
