Owen City Council Discusses Quarterly Payroll
Tuesday, January 15th, 2019 -- 9:01 AM
-The Owen City Council discussed the quarterly payroll report at their meeting last week. The report was approved, but the amount of overtime City Clerk Carol Devine had compiled was questioned along with how long Deputy City Clerk Terri Ernst would continue working. Both the overtime by Clerk Devine and the continued assistance of Deputy Clerk Ernst is on an as needed basis. The Personnel Committee is meeting next Tuesday to go over resumes for hiring a new Deputy Clerk. The Treasurer’s Report was also approved as was the Public Works Report. It was mentioned that about half of the city’s water meters have been replaced. The new water meters have a 20-year warranty. The Police Report was also approved. It was reported that the Police Commission has voted to allow the Owen-Withee Police Chief permission to hire two part-time officers not to exceed the cost of $12,500.
As the Chief’s new deputy will not be finished with the Police Academy until May, the hiring of two additional officers would allow the chief to have a more visible presence in the community along with providing the chief with some much-needed assistance. Of course, the county is also available when needed. Finally, during the Public Opinion portion of the meeting, one resident is concerned about the lack of fencing behind Heartland Coop and if anything was being done regarding the handicap entrance to City Hall.
