Black River Falls Area Experiencing "Voice" Like Competition

-The Black River Falls area is experiencing its own “Voice” like competition over the next couple months.High Voltage Entertainment is presenting a Karaoke Challenge. I spoke with Dan Kobb, the mastermind behind the competition, and he explained it in more detail.
"It's a singing competition. For several months I've had singers come to me and say I should put together a competition for the Black River area. And, of course, in working with the venues, they're my clients, this time of year is a slow time of year, so the two came together and created this event, a signing competition to bring some people in and get the community around it. We started reaching out via Facebook advertising it, via the actual venues and, of course, we've gotten on the radio and have done some radio advertisement. We had an application process and, after they filled out the application, I'd speak with them and that's how they'd become part of this."
If you’re crowned the champion, you don’t go home with just bragging rights.
"First place is $1,000. Second place is $500. Third place is $250. And of course, what's different about this, is, in the judging, the judges aren't going to know where the competitors are until the 9th event. Basically, they'd be scoring each event, each contestant and then I collect the judges sheet. The competitors won't know where they are either. We're going to keep that excitement going and, on the flip side, if somebody had an off night, they have another chance to make up for it."
Dan said it’s going to be a night of fun, not only for the competitors, but the audience as well.
"The fun part is for people to come out, pick your favorites and we have a wide variety of competitors too, some with a lot of competitive experience and some without any. It will be fun! Pick the folks that you like and kinda follow them throughout the whole time we'll be doing this."
If you go to one of the competitions, you’re going to hear a wide variety of music.
"Seven days prior to each event, the singers need to send me their song list from my catalog. And so, I have the first couple dates and it ranges from hip hop to old school George Jones to classic rock/heavy metal. And just some of the singers are characters too! Get out of the house, have some fun and make sure to have a few drinks too!
The dates of the competition include January 11th, 25th and February 8th at Cozy Corner in Black River Falls; January 12th, 26th and February 15th at TK’s 400 Club in Millston; and February 9th, 16th and 22nd at The Wright Place in Black River Falls.
