Figi's in Marshfield Closing Its Door, Neillsville Plant Included

Monday, January 7th, 2019 -- 11:12 AM

-Longtime Marshfield company Figi’s Incorporated is closing its doors.

Figi’s was founded in 1944 and purchased by the Mason Companies in 2013 as it was suffering financially. Mason Companies hoped to turn the company around and was looking for a buyer in recent weeks. However, those efforts proved unsuccessful. Figi’s is known for its gift baskets, gourmet food and holiday gifts through online and catalog orders. The company also announced the immediate closure of 'Gifts in Good Taste' and 'Birchland Market,' two gift catalog divisions within Figi's. The announcement came Friday and 129 employees were let go. Another 147 workers will be laid off in March. Around 125 employees will be retained for the Figi’s Call Center in Marshfield and the Stevens Point warehouse location.

The Neillsville factory also suffered from this announcement. According to employees of Neillsville, 98% of the workforce was affected by Friday’s closure. They were walked out the door on Friday just before noon. Around 50-100 employees were affected. Some will stay on until March, but the Neillsville plant is essentially closed down. Mason is providing the affected workers with assistance. All impacted employees will be given 60 days of full salary and benefits. They will also receive 60 days of access to the company's employee assistance program to help them find new jobs.
