Wisconsin Senate Majority Leader Doesn't Agree with Rollback of Tax Credit for Ag and Manufacturers

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin's Senate majority leader says his party will try to stand up for farmers and small business owners when crafting the next state budget, despite Governor-Elect Tony Evers' proposal to roll back a state tax credit for manufacturers and farmers.Sen. Scott Fitzgerald said in a statement on Wednesday that he's concerned about Evers' plans to 'hike taxes' on small business owners and farmers before he's even sworn into office. However, the senator said he was encouraged that Evers has decided to keep the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. In comments to the media, Evers noted he supports a 10 percent income tax cut for the middle class, but does want to cap the Manufacturing and Agriculture Tax Credit at $300,000 per year.
The credit aims to keep Wisconsin competitive with other states by spurring manufacturing job growth. Meanwhile, Evers also told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that he plans to include provisions in his budget proposal that would restore access to driver licenses and in-state college tuition for immigrant families, which Gov. Walker ended earlier in his administration.
