-A man arrested after a standoff in the Town of Alma in Jackson County appeared in Jackson County Court on Thursday.According to authorities, back in June, they executed a search warrant at a home and were searching an outbuilding when Juan Aguilar pointed a rifle out a window of the home. Deputies started negotiating with Aguilar, but he refused to come out. After an hour of negotiation, Aguilar did come out of the home, but was holding a small child and using the child as shield against the deputies. He challenged the deputies and even charged them while holding the child. However, after further negotiation, they did convince Aguilar to surrender. Authorities found a stolen vehicle, several firearms and drug paraphernalia on the property and in the home.
Aguilar and a woman, Jolene Gadbois, were arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail. During his court appearance on Thursday, Aguilar waived his preliminary hearing and entered a not guilty plea to the charges against him. He’s facing charges of receiving stolen property, intentionally pointing a firearm at law enforcement, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting or obstructing an officer and neglecting a child. He’ll be back in court in February.
