Wood County Volunteer Rescue Squad to Stick Around

(WAOW) -The Wood Co. volunteer rescue squad will stick around.According to WAOW, the county board unanimously voted to keep the group Tuesday at a meeting. In late November, Wood Co. Sheriff Tom Reichert discontinued the group citing budget issues. The move drew sharp criticism from the rescue squad and community members. The group was reinstated several days later. At the meeting Tuesday, the board decided the squad would stay at least until the end of the year, but so far, it’s not in next year’s budget. The rescue group’s president says it’s just the beginning.
“The fight is not over, we need to keep pushing forward, moving forward with everything we do, keep doing us, and stay positive with everything and thanks to the county board members that did vote yes and to push this resolution through,” says Dave Westfall, the President of the Wood County Sheriff’s Rescue. Sheriff Reichert is retiring at the end of the year and says it’s up to the incoming sheriff to decide where the money should come from for the group. The average operating cost for the rescue team is $10,000 per year.
