(WRN) -State Representative Katrina Shankland held a town hall on Wednesday night at UW-Stevens Point for citizens to learn about the bills passed during the lame-duck session. She says that the town hall was to let discouraged voters know that they're still the ones who drive decisions in the state.
"They're still in the driver's seat, they still have the ability to weigh in with their legislators, with the Governor, and they should stay involved, because their voice has never been more important."
Shankland says Governor Walker got a lot more attention than he wanted with these bills.
"We didn't just receive statewide attention for these bills, we received national and international attention, and the Governor is hearing from people close to him who are Republicans who have issues with this."
Shankland said she heard from hundreds of concerned citizens who feel like the bills are an abuse of power. Walker has yet to sign the bills and says he and his staff are deciding if and how he wants to use the line item veto on some of the measures.
