-The Owen-Withee School Board began their meeting on Monday with a presentation. The board saw a demonstration of the BossLaser Engraver. A $6000 award from the Herb Kohl Foundation to recognize the Kohl Fellowship received by Travis Engel in 2017 was used to purchase a BossLaser engraver that will be used in the technology education program. Mr. Engel demonstrated what the engraver can do and how it works. He presented name plaques to each board member that will be used at board meetings. The board also took a photo for the yearbook next spring. District Administrator Bob Houts presented to the board a job description for the Nurse Consultant position that focuses on development of health plans, training for staff members who administer prescription drugs during the school day and communication with parents on health issues. The board approved the job description and the posting of the position with the intent to be filled by the December board meeting.
The board also discussed their policy regarding animals on school grounds. The policy committee met on November 5th to develop policy 383 which addresses animal on school property. Policies from several districts were reviewed to develop the Owen-Withee policy. The full board reviewed the policy and proposed a few changes. The policy will be revised and brought back to the December Board meeting for the first of two readings that must occur for it to become official district policy.
