Holiday Season Kicks Off in Downtown Marshfield

(WDLB) -The Holiday Season kicked off in downtown Marshfield last night."Three! Two! One! Light 'em up! [Cheering]...
A tree-lighting ceremony took place in the city’s new Wenzel Family Plaza, as event organizer Mark Davis threw the switch on a 20-foot Christmas tree.
"The turnout, actually, was a lot better then I expected. Unfortunately, due to this weather, it's hard to expect turnout. But, luckily, the social media presence was fantastic. It got a lot of shares, a lot of views, a lot of interest, which is more then I could ever ask for. Of course, there's always room to improve. A lot of this is done by myself, so some tree could be positioned a little better. There could be some more lights on some trees, but that's all the small stuff. Overall, this was a huge success and, hopefully, it will get better and better in the years to come."
Davis says the inspiration for the event came from the Rockefeller Plaza tree-lighting ceremony in New York City.
"I kinda like the feel of it right now in Marshfield. I feel like it matches the small time vibe of the city and it can always grow next year."
Businesses are getting involved as well. They can sponsor and decorate one of ten smaller trees lining the plaza’s walkways through the holiday season. The Plaza will remain lit-up every night through New Year's Eve.
