USDA Officials Projecting Record Soybean Crop in Wisconsin

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Even after making a few adjustments from the previous month, USDA officials are still projecting a record soybean crop in the Badger State this fall.The National Ag Statistics Service's monthly Crop Production report said soybean output is forecast at 107 million bushels. If realized, it would be fractionally above the previous record set in 2016, with yields of about 49 bushels per acre. The agency says 2.19 million acres of beans are expected to be harvested by year's end. Corn production is forecast at 531 million bushels. That would be Wisconsin's second largest corn crop, also behind the 2016 record of 573 million bushels. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 177 bushels per acre, down two bushels from the October forecast, but up three bushels per acre from last year. Growers are also on track to see the second highest yield on record with three million acres being harvested for grain.
Fall potato production is forecast at 26.8 million hundredweight, down six percent from 2017. Produce farmers are projecting 400 cwt. per acre, down 25 cwt. from last year. But acreage should be about the same as the previous season at 67,000 acres. Nationally, soybean farmers are expected to harvest a record 4.60 billion bushels, which is four percent more than last year's all-time high output. Corn is forecast at 14.6 billion bushels, with yields projected to average a record 178.9 bushels per acre.
