Clark County Board of Supervisors Update
Saturday, October 6th, 2018 -- 8:03 AM
The Clark County Board of Supervisors approved a couple resolutions at their meeting on Thursday. The board began their meeting hearing the 2017 Audit Report and they also heard the 2019 budget presentation. The board approved a resolution regarding the official newspaper for Clark County. Back in 1972, Clark County had designated six newspapers to be their official publication in regards to agendas and minutes. The papers include the Tribune-Phonograph, Thorp Courier, Tribune Record Gleaner, O-W Enterprise, Clark County Press and the Dorchester Clarion, which is no longer active. However, it was discovered that state statute only allows a county with less than 250,000 people to have only one designated newspaper. At the previous Board of Supervisors meeting, there was discussion regarding, which newspaper would be the officially as the county is very large and each one covers a different area.
To come to a mutual beneficial agreement for all papers, the board approved posting all agendas and minutes on the county website. However, the state statute does say that a newspaper, and more than one, can file to be certified by the county clerk to have minutes and agendas posted in their paper, but still not be considered the county’s “official publication.”
The board also approved a resolution supporting the State of Wisconsin to increase Children and Family Aid Allocation to the counties by $30 million in the 2019-21 state budget.
