New Youth Center at Marshfield YMCA Officially Open

(WDLB) -The new youth center at the Marshfield Clinic Health System Y-M-C-A is officially open. The Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new addition yesterday. The construction was phase one of a major remodeling and addition project at the "Y". It's named in honor of major donors Everett and Delores Roehl--who were recognized during yesterday's ceremony by Dave Meissner--the Capital Campaign Co-Chair for the Y-M-C-A addition.
"You will never come by two more caring and humble people then Everett and Delores. Their influence will be in our community and will live on for generations."
The new Y-M-C-A Youth Center features "Jeremy's Kids Zone", named in honor of Dave and Tammy Meissner's late son, who battled alcohol addiction and depression.
"Depression and addiction are mental illnesses that invade the youth of our community. We must do more and we can. We've now built the wall, but now the work begins. Together we can prevent mental illness by raising the self worth of our youth, one child at a time."
The Roehl Youth Center opened up September first, and brings into one facility the Y's child care center, the Pied Piper 4-K Pre-School, Wood County Head Start, the Youth Net after-school program and the M-H-S alternative school. The nearly 16-million dollar Y-M-C-A building project began just over a year ago, and now moves into phase two. Marketing and Development Director Rochelle Hill says that includes a Healthy Living Center, and the new Everett and Delores Roehl Fieldhouse adjacent to West McMillan Street.
"And the Roehl Field House includes three full size basketball courts. It's going to be used for multi-sports. It's going to be a multi-sports complex. And that is currently being built right now. All the walls are complete and they're putting the roof on as we speak. The big thing that's happening the end of this week and into next week is the floor. So, they put a cement floor in that has to sit for a certain time before they can put the wood floor on and that's the largest portion of the project. But the walls are in, electrical is going in and it's an exciting time. And we're hoping the completion will be April of 2019."
The new field house will also feature a walking track around the top. There will also be expanded opportunities for team sports and sporting events.
"We can do tournaments here in town, so we can bring some revenue into the community, restaurants and hotels and all around. You've got indoor soccer, you've got volleyball, of course basketball tournaments. So, it will be nice to bring that into Marshfield."
A new state-of-the-art Healthy Living Center will also provide around-the-clock 24-7 access plus wellness consultation and fitness testing rooms, additional cardio and strength training equipment, and renovated exercise rooms. Miron Construction is the general contractor for the project.
