2017 Wisconsin Potato Industry Summary

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin potato production totaled 28.5 million hundredweight during the past growing season, up two percent from the year earlier.According to the latest USDA figures, the state's potato growers planted 68,000 acres in 2017, up 3,000 acres from the previous season. Harvested acres were reported at 67,000, also 3,000 acres more than the year prior. But average yield per acre fell from 435 per cwt. to 425.
Meanwhile, the price per cwt. averaged $10.90 last year, which was about 70-cents less than 2016. The total value of production for the Wisconsin potato crop was also down at $323 million.
