3 Youths Make Terrorist Threats In Augusta

Friday, September 21st, 2018 -- 10:32 AM

Three youths will be referred to juvenile authorities for making terroristic threats in the Augusta school district.

The Leader Telegram reports that on Thursday, Augusta High School administration was made aware of a threat found on an electronic device. The threat alluded to a shooting at the school that would occur Tuesday. According to information released by District Administrator Ryan Nelson and Augusta Police Chief Gordon O’Brien: Police were notified once the threat was discovered, and measures were immediately taken to ensure the safety and security of students and staff. No guns or bombs were found on school grounds.

Law enforcement and school officials investigated the threat and identified the three juveniles responsible. They said, “Interviews with students, staff and parents were conducted, and the juveniles were ultimately removed from the school.” The Augusta Police Department will maintain an increased law enforcement presence on school grounds, and additional security measures will be taken to monitor school grounds in the days ahead.
