Medford Man Arrested During Sting Operation Appears in Marathon County Court

-A Medford man was arrested after falling for a sting operation targeting child sex predators appeared in Marathon County Court on Monday.Earlier this month, an officer was posing as a 15-year-old girl on Facebook when he began communicating with 42-year-old Michael Mayotte. Mayotte said he was willing to travel to the girl’s home and outlined the explicit sexual acts he wanted to do with her. Mayotte was arrested after he arrived in Wausau and purchased condoms at a gas station. Police arrested him as he was walking to the address where he was planning to meet the girl.
Mayotte is being charged with using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime and bail jumping. He had a $50,000 cash bond set against him. During his preliminary hearing on Monday, probable cause was found, so his court proceedings will continue. He’ll be back in court today and tomorrow.
