-The Owen-Withee School Board discussed the district’s insurance for the 2018-19 school year at their meeting last week.District Administrator Bob Houts presented to the board the quotes for the various insurances the district carries for 2018-19. The district saw increases to the auto insurance due to adding a vehicle and the Workers’ Compensation insurance due to a costly claim in 2017-18 caused premiums to increase by roughly $12,000. The board also discussed a resolution regarding board members being able to substitute teach in their own districts. The board was asked to consider creating a resolution that could be presented to the WASB that would change state law and allow school board members to substitute teach in their own school district.
Current law allows board members to volunteer as coaches and advisors, but prohibits them from being employed by their district in any other capacity that board member. The board discussed the pros and cons of such a resolution and decided to not make a motion to create the resolution.
