Owen-Withee School Board Meets New Staff

-The Owen-Withee School Board began their meeting on Monday with the introduction of new staff.All newly hired staff members were present to allow the board to put a name with a face including Albert Goerlitz, 4K/Spec. Ed; Hailey Kadolph, 6th grade; Zach Feind, Elem. Math; Jenniffer Slowiak, 4th Grade; Sara Koller, HS Math/Science; Ciara Anderson, Speech and Language Pathologist; and Tammy Barth, K-12 Music were all in attendance. The board also discussed the WASB Regional Meeting on September 25th in Wausau. Board members Angela Greschner, Paul Heggemeier, Rick Eloranta and District Administrator Bob Houts have been registered for the WASB Regional meeting. Others were offered the opportunity to attend. Charlie Milliren and Dean Schmelzer will be recognized at the meeting for reaching Level 1 of the WASB professional development program.
The board also heard an update on the School Safety Grant. Mr. Houts updated the board on the progress made on the two rounds of the safety grants. Round 1, $66,000, fencing for the elementary playground is complete. Emergency kits for each classroom have been ordered. Upgraded doors/entry systems have been ordered and should be installed in October. Safety film for three main entrances will be installed this fall. Signage directing people to the main offices is being developed and the new phone system is being investigated and bid out to vendors. Round 2, $27,000, the grant was due August 30th. The district requested funds for planning and assessment, travel/training, subs to send teachers to training and hallway cameras for the elementary schools and upgrades to the high school cameras.
