(WDLB) -Construction is underway on the Marshfield School District's new athletic facilities. And School Board member Dale Yakaitis told the rest of the Board of Education last night that the funds for the project are coming in slowly but surely.
"Our committee is just doing an outstanding job of raising funds. The district also has some, I don't want to call them matching funds necessarily, that we will contribute. The plan calls for district and private donations covering approximately $4.2 million in costs for this fiscal year. Debt borrowing might be needed to complete the project and that's because of the way the funds come in from our donations. Must of them have pledged a certain amount of money, but, in many cases, it's over a 5 year plan. So, there may be some temporary funds the district has to come up with until those funds come in. And that would be some debt borrowing for that."
People may have noticed the preliminary work being done adjacent to Marshfield High School on the new football and track stadium. And he said the new bus transfer lot is completed, and working well. Work will start soon on the new baseball field just west of the high school, and a new softball field on the Madison Elementary campus. The Rettler Corporation of Stevens Point has designed more than 11-million dollars worth of athletic facility improvements over the next several years.
Among other things, the plan is calling for a new four-thousand-seat, multi-use sports complex next to the high school for football, track-and-field and soccer. The plan also calls for a soccer and practice football field and J-V baseball field on the vacant lot adjacent to the Tiny Tiger Center west of the high school. There will also be new track-and-field facilities added at Marshfield Middle School in future years.
